 The Ethrog E-Gel® was invented in 1995 and serially manufactured since 1998. This unique electrophoresis solution includes a pre-cast agarose gel, enclosed in a disposable, UV-transparent plastic cassette and compatible with an electronic power supply that controls the run. In this format, there’s no need for any of the following: weighing of agarose or acrylamide, gel casting, liquid buffers, electrophoresis tanks, or an external power supply.
The E-Gel® line has been expanded to allow high-throughput electrophoresis using a patented-design 96 lane format and an optimized 48 lane format, both of which are compatible with the use of automated liquid handling stations on the dedicated power source and running platform,
the E-Base.
Ethrog is offering the E-Gel in various agarose concentrations and stains, including the sensitive Ethidium Bromide, the non-mutagenic SYBR Safe (which fluorescence is obtained in certain visible light systems instead of UV), or no stain at all ('Clear'). In 2006, the innovative CloneWell cassette was launched, as well as the new running system, the iBase. See the Invitrogen website for currently available E-Gel products
